About Us
On April 30, 2025, a Special Committee to Review the Lobbyists Transparency Act (LTA) was struck. The BC Non-Profit & Charity Coalition consists of organizations who are advocating for sensible changes to the LTA to better align British Columbia with other major jurisdictions in Canada, as well as to ensure that non-profits and charities are not faced with onerous measures contained within the LTA in its current form.
The reality is that non-profit and charitable organizations may fear reaching out to government even as a reasonable matter of protocol for fear of running afoul of the narrowly defined LTA. This includes hosting an elected official at an annual conference dinner or special recognition event, giving a small token gift as a matter of protocol or thanks after hosting elected officials at an event (like branded pens or a notepad), and maintaining a strict 12-month timeline between certain lobbying initiatives.
Guidance from those administering the LTA could be strengthened when directing non-profit and charitable organizations in how to navigate these tedious regulations. BC’s non-profit and charitable organizations are often run by small teams, or entirely volunteer-based, and whose finances and time are often limited. In light of this, the coalition members are advocating for sensible changes.
